The methods and procedures used to develop, implement, and report the TIMSS results are documented in the Methods and Procedures: TIMSS 2019 Technical Report. TIMSS 2019 was the initial phase of the transition to eTIMSS, and approximately half of the participating countries therefore administered the assessment via computer for the first time; while the remaining countries, including South Africa, conducted the assessment using the paper-and-pencil format.
